Made for children learning basic arithmetics. The number you enter will be represented with cute animated kittens. Fractions and negative numbers will not be displayed, because kittens can not be divided or have a negative value.
The kitten calculator provides all four basic arithmetic operations: add, substract, multiply and divide.
The kitten calculator determines the current season by the date and changes its appearance. But you can select anytime a different season.
You might find things odd. So I provided some helpful explanations. Just tap the question mark button.
Type a number and the same number of cats will appear on the screen. Press any operation button like plus to add another number. When you press the "Equal" Button the results will be displayed.
The kitten calculator changes with the season from spring, summer, autumn to winter. If you find something strange - like dividing 8 by 3 equals 2 and you know that it should be 2,667 then you will find in the help section that the kitten calculator does not show fractions.
..why are some buttons missing which I are part of my standard calculator? Well, the kitten calculator tries to keep it easy. Therefore you can not calculate fractions, use negative numbers and be limited to one billion.
Currently we support French, English and German. But don't worry. Only the help uses text, everything else are just numbers and kittens.
Yes, because otherwise it would get to crowded. The app will display up to 100 kittens. But it will let you also know how many cats are not visible.
The most important difference is, that all the numbers will be represented by cute kittens. But this comes with a price: You can not see any fractions - because kittens can not be divided. And nothing will show up for a negative number.
All numbers smaller then 0 will be ignored. Because cats can not be divided into fractions of themselves.
Negative numbers will not be displayed. Because you can not have display a negative kitten - they like to stay positive all the time.
Etoto is a box word from E(ike) and Ot(t)o, who lives and works as a freelance user experience and user interface designer in Berlin. A long time ago he developed small games with Adobe Director. Ever since Adobe discontinued this great product in 2017, he was looking for alternatives.
In 2019 the Covid-19 epidemic broke out and at the beginning of 2020 many companies were so unsettled that projects were stopped or paused and freelance work was hard to find. Without new assignments, he suddenly had (too) much free time and was looking for new challenges.
Luckily Apple released a new GUI framework called SwiftUI in 2019 and Eike plunged into app development. A few small unpublished applications later, Eike will finally be ready to publish his first application, the Kitten Calculator, in 2023.
There is still a lot of testing ahead and he did not even start the approval process, so it might still take a while.
Fortunately, all it takes to create an iOS app is a Mac, inspiration, and time.
